Kubernetes Certification Curriculum Changes [2020 Updates]

The Linux Foundation announced the new curriculum for the CKA, which will be valid from the 1st of September 2020 (CKA20).

Here are some key changes for the new curriculam

  1. Exam duration has been reduced to 2 hrs from 3 hrs.
  2. Kubernetes v1.19 is the default version for the exam.

From the exam perspective, the focus shifts more on troubleshooting now, detailed changed below

  1. Cluster Architecture, Installation & Configuration – 25%
  2. Workloads & Scheduling – 15%
  3. Services & Networking – 20%
  4. Storage – 10%
  5. Troubleshooting – 30%

About Kubernetes Certification (CKA, CKAD & CKS)

Kubernetes certification is to test your Kubernetes skills through a live practical exam. This exam does not have any objective type questions like other certifications.

[Latest Update] Linux Foundation has announced the new certification program called Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS).

CKS certification registration and the course will be made available in November 2020. You must be CKA certified to take the CKS exam. This exam is more focussed on Kubernetes security, cluster hardening, build and deploy.

Exam Overview:

  1. It is an online-proctored exam
  2. Full emphasis is on practice than theoretical questions.
  3. You will have to complete 24 practical tasks in 2 hrs.
  4. You will have a free retake and 3 years of validity for the certification.
  5. Once you register for the exam, it will have 12 months’ validity.
  6.  You cannot cheat on the exam. However, the usage of kubernetes.io docs is permitted.
