DevOps Online
With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, it is more important than ever to make sure that developers are prioritising their own wellness and are happy at work. Indeed, a recent study by Stack Overflow showed that around 70% of developers are happy at work while 62% of employers encourage physical and mental wellness at work. Despite these rather positive numbers, many developers are still not prioritizing their own health with over 60% not having taken a mental health day yet. It was also found that doing physical exercises was the best way to relieve stress, such as going for a walk, which is not what developers are doing during their break. They are mostly listening to music, browsing social media, or watching videos. Hence, they aren’t stepping away from their devices, which can create stress. However, 88% of developers want to improve their physical wellness, and 83% their mental wellness. To do so, they are determined to try these new healthier habits such as drinking more water, eating healthily, doing exercises, socialising with friends and family, and reducing the hours at work. Finding the best balance between work and personal life is the best way to improve mental health and ensure that developers are happy at work. There is still a lot of work to be done but this is a step in the right direction. The post Developers to prioritise their mental and physical health at work appeared first on DevOps Online.
