  1. Amazon Aurora Serverless v1 now supports in-place upgrade from MySQL 5.6 to 5.7. Instead of backing up and restoring the database to the new version, you can upgrade with just a few clicks using the Amazon RDS Management Console or using the latest AWS SDK or CLI. No new cluster is created in the process which means you keep the same endpoints and other characteristics of the cluster. The upgrade completes in minutes as no data needs to be copied to a new cluster volume. The upgrade can be applied immediately or during the maintenance window.
