  9. Modern business applications rely on timely and accurate data with increasing demand for real-time analytics. There is a growing need for efficient and scalable data storage solutions. Data at times is stored in different datasets and needs to be consolidated before meaningful and complete insights can be drawn from the datasets. This is where replication tools help move the data from its source to the target systems in real time and transform it as necessary to help businesses with consolidation. In this post, we provide a step-by-step guide for installing and configuring Oracle GoldenGate for streaming data from relational databases to Amazon Simple Storage Service (A…

  10. Today’s data lakes are expanding across lines of business operating in diverse landscapes and using various engines to process and analyze data. Traditionally, SQL views have been used to define and share filtered data sets that meet the requirements of these lines of business for easier consumption. However, with customers using different processing engines in their data lakes, each with its own version of views, they’re creating separate views per engine, adding to maintenance overhead. Furthermore, accessing these engine-defined views requires customers to have elevated access levels, granting them access to both the SQL view itself and the underlying databases and tab…

  11. Thousands of organizations build data integration pipelines to extract and transform data. They establish data quality rules to ensure the extracted data is of high quality for accurate business decisions. These rules commonly assess the data based on fixed criteria reflecting the current business state. However, when the business environment changes, data properties shift, rendering these fixed criteria outdated and causing poor data quality. For example, a data engineer at a retail company established a rule that validates daily sales must exceed a 1-million-dollar threshold. After a few months, daily sales surpassed 2 million dollars, rendering the threshold obsolete…

  18. Amazon QuickSight includes a new advanced filter type: nested filters. Authors can use a nested filter to use one field in a dataset to filter another field in the dataset. You might know this by another name such as in SQL this would be known as a correlated sub-query and in shopping analysis this would be known as market basket analysis. Nested filtering enables authors to show additional contextual data, rather than filtering it out if it doesn’t meet an initial condition. This can be useful in many different scenarios including market basket analysis where it is now possible to find out sales quantity by product for those customers who have purchased a specific pro…

  80. Starting today, customers can hibernate their EC2 instances powered by AWS Graviton processors. Hibernation helps lower costs and achieve faster startup times by enabling customers to pause and resume their running instances at scale. When customers hibernate an instance, EC2 signals the operating system to perform hibernation (suspend-to-disk). This process saves the contents of the instance’s memory (RAM) to the associated Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) root volume. EC2 then persists the instance's EBS root volume and any attached EBS data volumes. When a hibernated instance resumes, EC2 restores the root volume to its previous state, along with the RAM cont…
